This is the vet covering her belly with
the sterile clothes to reveal
the area to be exposed and cut to get the
puppies out through
the opening which will be about 4 inches
long.

The beginning initial
cut into the abdomen. My vet is
extremely fast in the actual time she takes
to get the babies out from this initial
incision, it is good because the mom and
babies are under the anesthesia for a very
short period of time; only minutes.

This is the puppies still in the uterine
horn, they look they sausage links.
The vet then cuts open the horn and removes the puppies one by one.

This is the first of three puppies being
born, being removed from
the uterine horn and then passed to the vet
technicians to briskly rub
the puppies down and bring them to life getting then to breath in our
world.

This is my vet stitching up the abdomen
after she has cleaned
out and sewed closed the inside uterine horn
after removing the three puppies.

This is Sierra after the incision is closed
on the top layer with the staples.
Some vets use sutures it depends on the dog
and situation, Sierra had staples used due
to her reaction to regular sutures
previously. Surprisingly, these dams
heal very quickly and recover very nicely.
After about 7-10 days their abdomen is
totally healed and the staples are removed.

Sierra is awake here and warming up after
her surgery recovering with my son who is
giving her loving tender care. |
